Our Story

How Duck Cove Came to Be

Duck Cove is a lake house in Mabank, Texas, on Cedar Creek Lake, owned and styled by a family who grew up shopping Canton First Monday Trade Days. Its design and its name came from carved wooden ducks found at First Monday, and its rooms are filled with vintage treasures such as original art and woven baskets from the 1950s, paired with fully modern comforts.

Wood stove and original wood paneling at Duck Cove

I grew up going to Canton First Monday with my family, wandering the rows for antiques and the kind of finds you only spot if you look closely. Years later, friends invited our family to spend time with them on Cedar Creek Lake, and somewhere between the dock and the drive home we realized how close the lake is to Canton. That was the moment we knew what we were looking for.

Duck Cove is the house we found. It sits right on the water, where our kids fish from the dock, swim in the protected cove all summer and happily spend endless hours with us in Canton, hunting for treasures to fill it. The idea for the whole house came from a few carved wooden ducks we found at First Monday, and they gave us both the design and the name.

Today the rooms hold years of those trips, from carved wooden ducks to original art and woven baskets from the 1950s, all set against the original solid wood moldings and deep, moody colors. We paired those finds with the comforts we want on our own family weekends, like luxurious white linens, gigabit WiFi and a kitchen built for feeding a crowd. We hope it becomes the kind of place your family wants to come back to, again and again.
